WHO WE ARE

In 2017 the Centre for Ceramics Excellence (CCE) organised an international wood fired ceramics conference in Cooroy, Queensland. This successful event brought together hundreds of delegates from around Australia to learn about the medium from a wide array of local and international ceramic artists.

In 2019, the CCE changed its name to Australian Wood Firers United (AWFU), to better reflect the direction of this not-for-profit organisation going forward.

AWFU is headed up by Australian ceramic artist and wood firer, Rowley Drysdale (president). Sarah Drysdale is the vice president and Sandy Doble is our secretary and treasurer.

Australian Wood Firers United is a not for profit organisation which aims to educate and promote an understanding of wood fired ceramic art within Australia and further afield. We support selected educational and inspirational events which highlight this unique art form.

In recent years, we have sponsored a number of events to promote wood firing in Australia. These include the organisation of Flame Path, a wood fired ceramics exhibition at Noosa Regional Gallery in 2021 and the sponsoring of the Janet Mansfield Wood Fired Award at Gulgong in 2022 and the Gwyn Hanssen Pigott Wood Fired Award in conjunction with Ceramic Arts Queensland in 2023.
